holyweekThis is the fourth in a five day mini series exploring holy week. Each day a small activity is linked to an event from the days leading up to Easter.

DAY 4 – Thursday : Today we are looking at the symbols Jesus gave us to remember him

holy week Thursday

These resources have been updated to print – each day is a single page.
You can grab the printable pages over in the TPT shop – perfect for send home boxes.
Each page contains the original resources below plus more.

There is also a version of the resources specially for Preschool and toddlers.

For today’s activity you will need a cloth, a bag, some bread, a glass, and some red juice.

Leaving all the objects in the bag , sit the children in a circle. Slowly lay the cloth out, in the middle the cloth place the bread, the cups and the juice.
Say that this bread and juice is to share. Jesus and his disciples probably ate bread and drank water mixed with wine everyday.

Say a prayer to thank God for giving us food and pass out some bread and juice to the youngsters.

While the children are eating tell the following story in your own words.

Jesus and his friends sat down for a big meal, it was a special occasion so everyone was there. Jesus took the bread like he did every meal and he thanked God for providing it, but them he said something new. Jesus told his friends that this bread was like his body and broke the bread apart, and that the wine was like his blood. He said this was a new promise made from God, and that this promise would forgive people for the things they did that upset God. Then Jesus told his friends this would be his last meal with them.

All over the world people still use bread and wine as symbols to remember what Jesus did at Easter.

Lord Jesus, thank you for giving us symbols to help us understand. Amen
